january is for cleansing.

If you're anything like me, you just spent two months indulging every craving. From three family birthdays in November including my own, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas, and New Years. Oy vey! Not only has my body taken a toll, but my face is not happy either. Holy break out batman!

I am so ready to cleanse.

Need some ideas? Here are some things I plan on doing to get back to me.

1. Hot lemon water.

"Start your day by waking up with a glass of warm or cold lemon water. The pectin from the lemon aids in digestion, helping to make lemon a phenomenal detoxifying food. Water with lemon also helps curb your appetite and boosts satiety. Flushing toxins and energizing your digestive tract sounds like a great way to start the day, right? The bonus is the little wedge of lemon bobbing in your cup, which reminds your brain, 'Hey, I’m making healthy choices today!'"

From Today.

2. Sage.

It may feel a little voodoo, but I have found burning sage and palo santo to really have mood boosting benefits. Sage is also known for its antibacterial effects and can clean the air. For more information on the benefits of sage, check out Organic Facts

3. Food.

It's not about dieting. I repeat. IT'S NOT ABOUT DIETING. Change your mindset from what you cannot eat, to what you CAN. While I choose to eliminate most sugar (the evil of all evils for me) I CAN eat dark (70%+) chocolate and fruit. What is so amazing about eliminating sugar and most processed foods is how delicious everything else becomes. Seriously, you'll wonder why you didn't want to eat healthy before. The hard part is that sugar is SO addicting. It really does me in- affects my mood and weight. The more you eat the more you want. Oy. Wish me luck.

My eating will now consist of a lot more veggies, small amount of meat, medium amount of fish, small amount of fruits, and nuts.

Maybe this should have been first or second on my list. Water is THE ultimate difference between being healthy or not. Our bodies need water to function. Most of us do not consume enough, including myself. Bottom line, more water in 2018.

Also, when it comes to liquids, I really only drink water, tea, and kombucha. Pretty much everything else has high levels of sugar and often a bunch of other really not good for you junk- especially DIET sodas!!!

SIDE BAR: sodas KILL your gut. And when your gut is unhealthy it is harder to stay healthy. Your gut is your immune system.

5. Kombucha

And other good gut probiotics just make me feel so freaking good! Seriously, once you find a kombucha that you can stomach, you will be hooked! Food Renegade details many of the benefits. If you're daring enough, you can make it at home. My wife makes the best flavors and I am able to have one a day. A much more affordable solution as well.

Happiest of New Years to you and yours! May you be happy and successful this year. xo

"Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide."

With an alarm pre set and phone glued to hand, I repeatedly refreshed the browser. Forty five minutes of not so patiently waiting and then, BOOM! I was in. I felt immediate pressure to pick a date and time before getting the boot. Inspiration struck and I booked our tickets for my birthday weekend.

But then the outfit planning. Oh the outfits.

Once we decided on black and white I started planning an outfit around my rehearsal dinner striped dress. But I must inform you of a rule in our home: if you call an outfit, then it's yours.

And Bianca called that striped dress first.

But I think everything ended up quite nicely. Plus, I got a new dress out of the situation that is perfect for makeup jobs too. Not to mention that it was under $40 on Amazon

The makeup choice was easy. I knew a bold pink lip was necessary and the rest just came naturally. I had gotten some Charlotte Tilbury skin prep samples, and HO-LY MO-LY this stuff is good!

With a little bit of research, I found a nearby restaurant right up our alley. I chose Aliment for one reason only: the brussels. We are obsessed with brussel sprouts. Our favorite were some we had on our honeymoon in Portland, Oregon at a restaurant called Tasty and Alder. Caramelized fish sauce. It may not sound appetizing, but it is all that and a bag of chips!

Second item on the Aliment menu: Brussels Sprouts // caramelized fish sauce, toasted nori.

And they brought me right back to Tasty and Alder!

We also ordered the beet salad, which was so beautifully displayed, cauliflower saute, and a main course that neither of us can recall. Everything was delicious and we were tempted to order a second serving of the brussels.

A short walk down hill, and we arrived at the most colorful building.

Upon entering, they give you a card to use with their cameras so your photos can be emailed directly at no additional charge. The first image above was taken upon entering the museum.

After taking the photo, there were several small circles on the wall with writing next to them. Upon getting closer, you see a description of a smell. And wow did they get the smells just right!

And then the tastings: Smashmallow (I got root beer and Bianca got strawberry and cream) in the rainbow room and Pressed Juicery charcoal cleanse in the black and white room.

And, let's be honest here. The black and white room was the picture I had been planning for.

Next we came upon the orange room. Although interesting with its eclectic array of nick nacks and do dads, we weren't very much interested in taking any photos.

Then came the blue room and an instant rush of balloon scent. The room felt like a dream or as if I were floating in the night sky. This room was smaller, and more difficult to get a photo without others in it, especially the photo take with their camera. However, Bianca did manage to get one cute photo of me.

The disco room. A holographic floor! Disco balls and music. We HAD to dance!

And who remembers playing with a Lite Brite as a kid?!

But we came upon what I believe is my favorite of all the rooms: the Ribbon Room.

Holy moly! I did not even ever imagine that I could love walking through thousands of ribbons as much as I do now. Bianca and I even spoke of how and when we could make one of our own. Maybe one day our child will need a corner of ribbons in their room.

Ok. Enough with the ribbon obsession.

After a quick break into the completely pink bathroom full of jokes we went up some very happy stairs...

and found ourselves down a hallway of even more color!

This beautiful hallway led us to the most anticipated room.

If you have been with us through our wedding planning, you saw our series of confetti photos. So, this room felt like it was made for us. And my sweet sweet wife bought the cutest crowns for my birthday and this was the perfect room for them.

And finally, the yellow ball pit. As a preschool teacher, I was quite excited to jump into a pee-less pit of balls!

And finally, a sweet yellow treat to send us on our way!

Thank you Color Factory for a fun filled evening!
