self applied beauty: maggie nazario.

I am so excited to introduce today's guest blogger: Maggie Nazario of Callavida. She is a Point Peace Guide supporting women with taking back their inner calm through self-care and stress management.

I met Maggie a few years back through my mom when Maggie needed her makeup done for a wedding. Conversation was easy and I really enjoyed talking to her. She moved to Texas soon after our meeting and recently moved back. We reconnected at a workshop led by Sharon of Social Savvy and now we are planning a wellness workshop together- Self Care: soul + skin

I can personally attest to the fact that her work is significantly beneficial. Even after just one reiki session and several small conversations, I feel more balanced. I am excited for our personal and profession relationships to evolve and ready for YOU to get some takeaway from Maggie as well.


Hey there Gorgeous!

Yes, you. You have a little something on you. I'm not sure what it is because I can't see you, but I do know for sure, you have a little something there.

It is that "thing" that you love about your looks.  It could be your eyes, your legs, your hair- but there is absolutely something uniquely beautiful making you, you.

Bring into mind what your thing is, or go take a peek in the mirror to give yourself a reminder. Chances are appreciating that thing is a special moment when you don't need anyone else to validate what you already know.

And you know you've got a few pretty good things going on there, don't you?

If you are having trouble with this or feel uncomfortable then you need to do this the most. So make that effort alone, or ask someone you trust to join you in a moment of discovering your thing.

I did some poking around and asked a number of women from all different walks of life what they like about their looks and was pleased to find most had easy answers for me. We can spend so much time picking ourselves apart it was refreshing to read the replies:

"I love my high cheek bones! And my dimples."

"My eyes and my tattoos, they tell the story of who I am."

"My smile makes others smile and obviously if I am smiling, I am happy, and I feel beautiful."

"My smile and my feet!"

"My wrinkles are all caused by smiling, no frown lines here .. and the scars and stretch marks are all "battle scars" in a battle I am winning.. because I am here, living and loving life!"

And my personal favorite: "Everything!"

The delightful thing about finding something about your looks that you love is it creates a beautiful outward accessory that reflects your confidence within. Not only that, you set a positive example for other women and girls who just like you, might find it hard at times to appreciate their own unique beauty.

So take a moment, look at yourself with the same eyes that see beauty in your loved ones, and be thankful for that thing.

what is floating?

Goodby stress. Hello potential.

If you're like me, you're always feeling like you need another hour or two in every day. Life handed me a gift at the perfection time. 


But what in the world is that?! Sensory deprivation in a dark and quiet tank or tub of salt water. 

But why?! The benefits are incredible. Stress reduction. Anxiety relief. Sports recovery. Pain relief. To promote relaxation. Reduce headaches. Increased circulation. For more restful sleep. Promote heart health. 

If that isn't enough, how about an hour all to yourself without any interruptions!

Here in Campbell, California, you can find me floating at Float Station, a truly premium floating experience! Not to mention that their showers are absolutely incredible!! 

I schedule a monthly float to keep my mind and body in check. After each float I feel alert, but oh so relaxed. The following week I notice significantly better sleep and a more clear mind. It is better than any anti-anxiety medication I have ever been on! 

Here's the breakdown: 

  1. shower to remove oils from body and hair. Shampoo and body wash only.
  2. dry off as much as possible- areas that are left wet are more likely to form salt crystals if not fully submerged into the water. 
  3. enter float pod. You can use the provided foam circle to help keep your head afloat. 
  4. music will play for the first few minutes before fading out. You can also choose to keep the light on or turn it off. I prefer it off immediately.
  5. it is suggested that you move around a bit in the pod to get comfortable and release extra energy.
  6. music will slowly come back to alert your senses and bring you back to reality. 
  7. take your time getting out of the pod and then take another shower. I like to really take my time and enjoy this shower. At this time I also condition my hair. The salt will dry it out quite a bit. 

The idea can be nerve racking for some, especially those who tend to be claustrophobic. I was hesitant for the same reasons, but pushed through the worries after hearing all of the amazing benefits. Turning the lights of immediately helped me to feel as if I were in a bigger space. 

Another big word of advice the owners of Float Station gave to me, was to give it some time. Time to get comfortable and used to the experience. My third float is what they refer to as a "Magic Float". Oh Em Geeee! I was in a meditative state for the majority of this float. I came to in the most euphoric state I have ever experienced. My productivity, mental state, and physical abilities were at an all time high for the three weeks following. 

While each float is an entirely different experience, it has been life changing and I highly recommend that everyone give it a try. Find more information here!
