People are going to provide a lot of unsolicited advice. They love you and want to help. So, practice a really good smile and "thank you". There's no sense in discussing their advice if you're not going to use it. This is your wedding, make choices that are best for the two of you. Often others can't understand or see your vision, but they will see how happy you are on your big day, and that's what truly matters.
My wife and I learned this lesson first hand. From family to friends, we were bombarded with opinions that felt very assertive and extremely overwhelming. On one hand I was great at the smile and nod, while on the other hand I often tried too hard to explain my opinion.
If you don't plan on taking a loved one's advice, there's no sense in upsetting either of you. Part of wedding planning is balancing everyone's happiness, but don't forget about your own.
On the other hand, if it will make for peace and happiness, it may make sense to make some compromises here and there if it is not going to ruin the integrity of your special day.
Happy wedding planning beauties!
