january is for cleansing.

If you're anything like me, you just spent two months indulging every craving. From three family birthdays in November including my own, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas, and New Years. Oy vey! Not only has my body taken a toll, but my face is not happy either. Holy break out batman!

I am so ready to cleanse. 

Need some ideas? Here are some things I plan on doing to get back to me.

1. Hot lemon water.

2. Sage.

It may feel a little voodoo, but I have found burning sage and palo santo to really have mood boosting benefits. Sage is also known for its antibacterial effects and can clean the air. For more information on the benefits of sage, check out Organic Facts

3. Food.

It's not about dieting. I repeat. IT'S NOT ABOUT DIETING. Change your mindset from what you cannot eat, to what you CAN. While I choose to eliminate most sugar (the evil of all evils for me) I CAN eat dark (70%+) chocolate and fruit. What is so amazing about eliminating sugar and most processed foods is how delicious everything else becomes. Seriously, you'll wonder why you didn't want to eat healthy before. The hard part is that sugar is SO addicting. It really does me in- affects my mood and weight. The more you eat the more you want. Oy. Wish me luck. 

My eating will now consist of a lot more veggies, small amount of meat, medium amount of fish, small amount of fruits, and nuts. 


Maybe this should have been first or second on my list. Water is THE ultimate difference between being healthy or not. Our bodies need water to function. Most of us do not consume enough, including myself. Bottom line, more water in 2018.

Also, when it comes to liquids, I really only drink water, tea, and kombucha. Pretty much everything else has high levels of sugar and often a bunch of other really not good for you junk- especially DIET sodas!!! 

SIDE BAR: sodas KILL your gut. And when your gut is unhealthy it is harder to stay healthy. Your gut is your immune system. 

5. Kombucha

And other good gut probiotics just make me feel so freaking good! Seriously, once you find a kombucha that you can stomach, you will be hooked! Food Renegade details many of the benefits. If you're daring enough, you can make it at home. My wife makes the best flavors and I am able to have one a day. A much more affordable solution as well.
